There may be a variety of reasons a student winds up with the disciplinary consequence of in-school suspension. When it does happen, we need to be sure we are giving this student the very best our profession has to offer.

Ashleigh Warner has a wonderful quote, “Beneath every behavior is a feeling. And beneath each feeling there is a need. And when we meet that need rather than focus on the behavior, we begin to deal with the cause not the symptom.”

The goal of an in-school suspension assignment should be to provide targeted, support to each student by highly-qualified educators who can make the most of the time shared with the student.
